NFL 2014-15 Playoff Predictions: Divisional Round

Okay, I was 2-2 in my Wild Card predictions, but keep in mind the Lions and Cowboys were close and could’ve gone either way without the penalty. Still can’t believe the Ravens demolished the Steelers at Heinz…

Now onto the Divisional Round predictions:

Ravens 21 | Patriots 23

This will be a close game. The Ravens seem to have a number on the Patriots, so this is a low confidence prediction and I could definitely see the Ravens winning. (Plus, I m always royally wrong when I dismiss the Ravens.) Also, Flacco is a beast in the playoffs. But nevertheless, I’m going to give a slight edge to the good Patriots’ secondary, Belichick’s creative strategies, and the home-field advantage at Foxboro.

Panthers 10 | Seahawks 17

Now here are two teams built pretty similarly – young, mobile QB’s under center, and on the other side of the ball, a stout, ball-hawking defense. This could be a defensive battle of a game, and could actually be closer than what many people expect. However, the edge goes to the Seahawks with the 12th man on their side and Beast Mode.

Cowboys 31 | Packers 26

A good matchup between two very good QB’s and two mediocre defenses. An 8-0 team on the road playing an 8-0 team at home. I have to give the edge to the Cowboys because of their run game and offensive line, and this will serve to keep the ball away from Aaron Rodgers. Speaking of Rodgers, he’s injured. The Packers’ offense will not be operating at 100%. A final interesting statistic: since 2010, Rodgers has a 1-2 playoff record at Lambeau; the year the Packers won the Super Bowl, all their playoff games were won on the road.

Colts 24 | Broncos 28

Another interesting matchup… Manning vs. his successor. And I think the successor might have the edge at the QB position here. Manning hasn’t been performing at his peak as of late and it’s going to be cold. That said, Denver’s superior defense and vastly superior running game will be why Denver wins this game. However, if the Colts can play as well as they did last week, they have a chance. Then again, last week was against Dalton.

P.S. I finished this one minute before the Ravens-Patriots kickoff! Pro.
