Going to cram a couple of things in this post, because I can.
You gotta think about how creative California explorers were when they first came up with geographical names.
Locations that start with “San”
San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, San Ramon, San Rafael, San Bernardino, San Simeon, San Luis Obispo, San Marcos, San Clemente, San Fernando, San Gabriel, San Juan Capistrano, San Joaquin, San Leandro, San Pablo, San Dimas, San Marino
Locations that start with “Santa”
Santa Clara, Santa Monica, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Santa Maria, Santa Clarita, Santa Fe, Santa Rosa, Santa Ana (ALMOST forgot this one), Santa Margarita
Locations that start with “Los”
Los Angeles, Los Altos, Los Banos, Los Gatos
I am clearly missing some from each category, but these were all I could come up with for now.
I know that everything’s Spanish and all, but why so much San, when compared to Los, or when compared to locations that don’t have a San or Los or Santa or etc. in them. (I’d pay for a town called San Serif though.)
2. March Madness?
Randomly thinking, I had an epiphany. In that past month, we’ve had
-Japan quake/tsunami/nuclear thingamabob
-Christchurch quake (okay that was a month + 3 days ago, but still…)
-Alexander Wallace CHING CHONG LING LONG TING TONG
-Rebecca Black – Friday lolwut
One of the more “disastrous” months we’ve had in awhile. Of course “disaster” is in quotation marks, but there’s been a lot of news this month. I would even include the Myanmar quake on this list if it was a decent headline in the news.
